Comparison
V60
Aeropress
What is it?
A V-shape conical coffee brewing device that slopes at 60 degrees (hence its name). You can find V60 drippers made from ceramic, plastic and so on.
A plastic piston-style coffee brewer
How to use?
Place the V60 dripper on top of a carafe/cup. Place coffee grounds in the coffee filter paper and brew by pouring hot water slowly over the grounds. Wait for water to finish dripping.
Place coffee grounds in the piston and add water. Attach the plunger and push down, forcing the coffee through the filter and out into the cup directly.
Need filter paper?
Yes, paper filter.
Yes. Most people use the Aeropress paper filter, though some may opt for a reusable filter.
Ease of use
Brewing can be pretty straightforward, though one can opt to play with various variables such as brew temperature, pour time and so on.
Brewing recipes can range from the straightforward to having more complicated brewing steps.
Grind size
Consistency similar to sand or slightly finer than sand
Consistency similar to table salt
Cost
S$10 onwards for a V60 dripper, from S$2 onwards for a pack of paper filters
S$60-70 for an Aeropress, starting from S$7.90 for a pack of paper filters
Brew characteristics
Very clean and lighter bodied. Possible to bring out more nuanced or delicate flavours in the coffee.
Clean and more full-bodied brew than the V60, due to more pressure applied (by downward pushing) during coffee extraction.
